Thanksgiving 2011

For Thanksgiving this year we traveled down to North Carolina, to Chris and Sarah's house.  Every single member of the family was there and it was a lot of fun.

We started the day at the Charlotte Turkey Trot.  It was perfect weather.
We spent the afternoon preparing the meal and eating a delicious Thanksgiving dinner.  Joseph and I were in charge of the smashed potatoes and green beans.   We had a Turducken, tons of ribs, and almost one pie per person.

On Friday after we went to the Lazy5Ranch, a farm with exotic animals.  We got to pet and feed giraffes, camels, water buffalo and more.  It was a blast.

Lillian

Lillian Nielson Williams. A Tribute to my Grandma.

My grandma passed away two weeks ago.  We knew it was happening so when I got the news, I wasn't shocked or surprised.  But I was sad.  Both of my grandparents on that side of the family have now passed on.  That makes me sad.  However, I can't help but be happy thinking about how happy my grandpa must have been to be reunited with his wife again.  I am thankful at times like these for my knowledge and faith in the plan of salvation and that our families are eternal.

All of my siblings came out to the funeral and it was really nice to be surrounded by family.

Make a Wish

Today is 11-11-11, some say a very lucky day.  I don't really believe in superstitious things, it is to unsettling to me the idea of superstition.   That is not orderly enough for me, that is not the way the world works.  Sports teams don't win games because you wore your team jersey at home while watching the game, walking under a ladder isn't going to bring you bad luck.

I am not even sure I like the idea of good luck and bad luck.  Are some people really just lucky? That doesn't seem fair to me.  Shouldn't you have to work for the things that you have?

I digress.

Since today is 11-11-11 a very lucky day I am going to make some wishes.  Because even if it isn't true, there is not hurt in trying right.  That's the things with superstitions, they might not be real and they might not exist but what if they do.  I would rather err on the side of caution.

My wishes......

I wish I knew everything was going to work out in the end

I wish everyone understood why we want to move to Manhattan

I wish I was a really talented athlete

I wish Joseph and I will run a sub 4:10 in March

I wish my thesis will get published

I wish everyone was happy all the time

I have other wishes, but I think i will keep them to myself for now.

We have lost our minds

I think we have gone crazy.

We signed up for another marathon.

March 17th.

The DC Rock n' Roll

We figure we might as well go for it now while we are still in pretty good shape from the Baltimore marathon. If anyone would like to join us the more the merrier. (I'm looking at you Jordans...)

I am excited but also nervous about training through the winter.  Although it really can't be worse than training through the summer.

Wish us luck.

Happy Halloween

We didn't really do that much for Halloween.  My thesis is due in a couple of weeks so I have turned into the most boring person ever.  Joseph said he is waiting for December so he can get his wife back.  Needless to say I haven't had a lot of brain space to think about celebrating halloween.  We didn't even carve pumpkins this year!  I didn't even really realized it until the night of Halloween, that is how bad it is around here.

We did go to a Halloween party on Saturday night with some people from church.  Where we made caramel apples, the only festive thing we have done this year.  We went as Occupy Wallstreeters (Philly has an encampment too).  I went super granola, and Joseph went Hipster.  We were too lazy to think of our own costumes so we copied some of our friends.

I got to wear the worlds ugliest pants that I had bought in Australia and can't bring myself to part with.  Even though now looking back I can't believe I bought them.  Joseph almost one upped me by wearing a pair of my old pants that were so tight! It is unfortunate it doesn't really come across in these pictures.
