Last Friday the weather was perfect. When it is cold during January and February I usually try to fit as much of my body as possible inside my coat and walk as quickly as possible to where ever I need to go. I also try to avoid going outside at all costs. However, last Friday it was in the 60's, not windy, and wonderful.
Joseph and I decided we needed to be outside to take advantage of this weather, so we had a little date, that involved walking slowly through the streets and rediscovering the charm of Center City.
First, we went to 500°, a burger joint near our house that makes gourmet burgers. We both got burgers and shared some fries and a milkshake.
Since the weather was so perfect we didn't want to go right home. So, we headed to Rita's, which we had heard was reopened after its winter hibernation was open again, in search of some water ice. And everyone knows that Rita's has the best water ice in town.
Since we had just shared a milkshake, we just got a small mango (my favorite flavor) to share as we walked home. It was a very nice night.
*Editor's note: All this week it has been in the thirties/twenties, and today we are having hurricane-like rain. But at least it was nice last week for a perfect little date.

Boot Camp and Cop Cars
Last night I got driven home by Temple campus police.
Why did this happen? oh, I will tell you.
Last night my teacher canceled class to give us some time to meet together with our groups to work on our group project. So since I was on campus and we got down earlier than we would have if I was in class, I though that it would be a good idea to go to the gym on campus after class.
We got done around 6 and there was a Boot Camp class starting at 620, so I hussled over to the gym changed and ran upstairs just in time for the start or the class.
Class started and everything was going great I was jumping around like a crazy fool for twenty minutes to "Like a G6" enjoying the change of pace from my normal workout routine.
Then we started the weights portion of the class and I started to feel really dizzy. So I was trying to play it cool so I stopped and I was trying to breath and relax but everything was only getting worse, I knew I needed to lie down. Fortunately the room where they keep all of the supplies was only a few feet from where I was standing, my goal was to make it in there so that I could lie down without making a scene and maybe no one would notice.
So carefully I start walking...ok one step, breath, keep it together Megan, keep it together....then i must have blacked out because when I come to a little bit I am clutching the music system and I hear a girl in the class say "Theres something wrong with her" pointing right at me, I look up and the whole class (at least 60 people) are just staring at me.
This is exactly what I didn't want to happen. Then I must have blacked out again because all of the sudden I am sitting on the ground and the instructor keeps asking my name (to me all I keep thinking is why is this lady asking me my name, why does she care what my name is, and what the freak is going on) then I realize I had blacked out. Not Awesome. According to the lady it was only for a few seconds.
Meanwhile all 60 of the people in the class are still staring at me.
At this point two things become funny to me, one is that one of the temple police officers, an older gentleman, was actually in the class (for working out) along with the 60 girl undergrads. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and not call him a perv. second, a girl comes running in with a defibrillator.
At this point there were probably about 10 people (medical and otherwise)staring at me asking me if I am okay, if I need any water, had I eaten today (it was 630 PM people of course I had eaten) and what my TUid is. Sorry people I don't have my Temple ID number memorized, it is in my bag DOWNSTAIRS, and since I am currently laying flat on my back, I can't go get it for you.
Now things start to calm down, I tell them this has happened before, it is nothing serious I just need to lie down for a little while. So finally we move to another room so that those 60 people staring at me can go back to getting there workout on, and I can fill out some paperwork.
Usually I just take the subway home from school because it is todangerous far to walk home, but everyone thought that was a bad idea, they were afraid I would pass out again on the subway and end up sleeping next to a homeless person, so a very nice police officer offered to take me home.
So this folks is how I ended up having my first experience riding in a cop ca.
P.S. Joseph was very disappointed I didn't get a picture of my in the car.
P.P.S. I am totally fine, nothing is wrong with me, I have had all the tests, sometimes I just pass out for no apparent reason. I don't even have any after effects.

Joseph's Birthday Celebrations
Joseph turned 26 last week. I am not sure how we have gone from cute little 22 year olds to this but it has happened. We celebrated all weekend for the big day.
We started the birthday celebrations by going to a new restaurant that had opened in the Italian market called Monsu. It was SO delicious. We went with a group of friends from the law school, so there was good food and good company. A winning combination.
On the day of official day of Josephs birth we started the day off with birthday breakfast of homemade cinnamon rolls, made by yours truly.
Then we had birthday dinner and present opening galore. I managed to completely surprise Joseph with his presents. First I had our doorman hide all of the packages that I ordered online so that Joseph seriously thought that I hadn't gotten him anything. Then I switched up the packaging so that he couldn't guess what they were. Joseph is a surprisingly good present guesser. Switching the packaging worked so well that he was surprised with each present. My big present for Joseph was his first pair of RayBans (which he has been begging me for). I love being able to surprise Joseph since he is much more perceptive than the average human.
Since we had been eating a lot of junk all week, Joseph begged me not to make a cake and suggested that we just have smoothies for birthday treats instead. So we had birthday smoothies, so yummy.

Warning Signs
These signs appear all around the city in the winter months.
At first I thought they were pretty comical, and they seemed a little bit unnecessary. Until earlier this week. I was walking along and a giant piece of ice came crashing to the ground, shattering into a hundred pieces, out of nowhere, just inches from where I was walking. This piece of ice could have seriously injured me.
But here is the problem, I like to walk close to the buildings for three reasons: 1. It seems less likely that I will get hit by a car. 2. It seems less likely that I will be easily snatched. and 3. It is less windy close to the buildings.
So the answer is do I walk close to the street risking these other problems or close to the buildings risking death by icicle?

Yesterdays Happenings
Yesterday night while walking home from the subway on this street
This happened:
Random stranger from his car: "Hey girl, you look nice"
Me: Look over in annoyance
Random stranger: "Why you gunna look over here at me like I'm crazy?"
Me: Continue walking and ignoring the random stranger
so Mr. Random Stranger I think that most people would agree that yelling at people you don't know from your car is the definition of crazy. Did you really think I was going to stop walking come over and give you my number? Let's get real.
I also think that TLC had a song about this that you might want to look up, it's a good one.

Saturday Food Excursion
Today our food excursion was an adventure that was sort of made up as we went along. This morning after we woke up we did a deep clean of the house, then at about 11:30 Joseph proposed that we go to Reading Terminal Market to eat at D'Nic's. D'Nic's supposedly has the best roasted pork sandwiches in the whole world. We have been attempting to eat there for awhile. So we quickly got dressed and rushed out the door since Joseph had to be to a school thing at 1:00.
However, we had both forgotten what a mad house Reading Terminal Market turns into on Saturdays. I usually only go on weekdays. On Saturdays it is packed with people, many of whom are tourists so they don't know what they are doing and are looking all around causing serious stress to those of us who go there at least once a week.
We also needed to get some produce so I went to do that while Joseph went to get in line, and try to navigate the tourists.
Well, when he got there the line for D'Nics was SO long Joseph knew we would never make it through in time for him to get to his school thing. The line snaked all throughout the market. It was ridiculous. It is also the only place with such a long line - a testament to how good the sandwiches are.
So, instead Joseph settled for a reuben from Hershel's East Side Deli. Which he swears was amazing. I opted to not get anything since I am not a huge fan of the reuben or the other types of sandwiches that they make at this place, and we were quickly running out of time.
So today's excursion was a learning experience.
