Turkey Day 4 - Kusadasi

Since both of our parents suggested that we should go to Kusadasi we figured we should probably go check it out. It was about 20 minutes from the town we were staying in, so we hopped on a little mini bus. These mini busses are more like communal taxis so they don't really run on a schedule. You just go down to the bus station get on the bus and wait until the driver feels like he's hit enough people to make the trip worth his while. Then, he will make some regular stops along the way, but it also seemed like he was perfectly willing to let anybody out wherever they wanted - including, very often, the middle of absolutely nowhere.

Back to Kusadasi - This town was crazy. It was basically one huge market, where you could get almost anything as a knockoff. It was amazing. But the hassling was unlike anything you've ever experienced. A typical approach usually went something like this: "Hello, yes, please, my friend, brother, you like ____? I make you good price." At first it is funny, then it gets old. I got tired of being harassed pretty quickly, so we headed out to an old fort to check it out and relax.

Since we were planning on leaving that night we didn't take our swimming suits but the coast was beautiful and the water looked amazing.

Later that evening after a dinner of deserts (Turkish ice cream and baklava (which we eat everyday)), we went back to Selcuk. On the way back we met an interesting man on the bus who owns a couple of Turkish rug shops, so we stopped by his shop in town and his wife was so nice and not pushy and gave us the insider scoop on rugs. I really wish we could have gotten one because they were so beautiful.

All in all a pretty successful day in another interesting town.

These are some pictures from our breakfast at our hotel on the rooftop terrace.
