We made it

So we made it to Turkey. Our plane was delayed three hours leaving Dulles, leaving 2:30am. I was so ready for bed by the time we got in the plane. We flew Turkish Airlines which was very nice.

After we arrived in Istanbul, it was close to 9:00pm on Saturday; we headed over to the bus station to take an overnight bus down to the coast. Yes we took a bus, but it was a luxury bus with a little Turkish bus attendant man with a bow tie who served snacks, drinks, and ice cream.

At one point the bus pulled straight onto a ferry to cross some large body of water, so we got to get off the bus to enjoy the ferry ride in the middle of the night, which was pretty awesome. We made it to the town where we are staying Selcuk, at 7am. The luxury bus driver literally just dropped us off on the side of the street. We walked to our hotel, and dropped off our bags and set off for some sight seeing.

First we went to the Basilica of St. John. A huge church (now just ruins) built on the site where it was believed John the Beloved/Revelator was buried.

Then we went to an old Mosque (the Isa Bey Mosque), and got a private tour by the Imam since we were the only ones there. He taught us that the name of the mosque meant "Mr. Jesus." We both thought that was funny.

After wondering around the town for a little while longer we were able to check into our hotel room. Where we promptly showered and fell asleep. Jetlag is the worst.

After our naps we took a minibus up the mountains to an old Greek town called Sirence. It was really cute, tucked into the hillside, where they make their own olive oil and wine.

That us pretty much it for the first day, it was a great start to the trip.
