We had heard from some friends that it is fun to rent bikes and cruise around to some of the temples that you didn't have time to go to on the first day so that is what we did. We figured we would sleep in, watch some of the RNC convention on TV and get started in the afternoon, since we didn't want to be biking all day. This schedule, it turns out, was a big mistake.
For $1.50 a piece we rented some cruiser bikes and headed to the temple complex. It was about 12:00 and it was hot. After riding for a few hours I had officially sweated through most of my clothes, we were starting to get a little mean to each other and decided we needed to eat some lunch. Right around this time it also started sprinkling which means that any second it would start pouring. Never one to make good decisions under pressure I just veered off to the nearest hut selling food for some rain cover. And the rain started pouring, just like sheets of rain, it was crazy.
After we had stopped I regretted it immediately the place was so sketchy but we were trapped by the rain we had no choice. It was so sketchy, there were chickens roaming around, and a little boy running around without pants on. I was scared the whole time we were going to get food poisoning. Fortunately, we didn't but I'm pretty sure it was a close call. While we were there it just kept raining but we were so grossed out that as soon as it looked like it was going to stop we grabbed our bikes and headed out. This was the second mistake of the day. We had only ridden for a few minutes when it started raining again. We saw a little hut. "Hut" is a bit of a misnomer - it was really just a map with a small covering, that we thought would be sufficient to hide behind. Little did we know how bad the rain would be standing under that little hut. We got completely soaked except for on top because we were wearing rain jackets. It was just ridiculous. At one point I was actually scared for my life; when some lighting struck so close that we saw colors and our heads started hurting. We also saw a man on a ox-drawn carriage riding down the street like it was no big deal. We hid under there for an hour. Finally it started clearing up and the wind stopped blowing enough that we figured it was safe to ride, so since we were already wet we just hopped on our bikes and called it a day and headed home. Also, I had forgotten how bad my rear end would hurt after riding a bike all day, a very unfortunate side effect of bike riding.
We only have one picture from the day because the whole day was just sort of a disaster. The picture is from when we had just stopped under the little hut, but it hadn't really started raining as bad yet.
After we made it back to the hotel, we had to rest for a while to recover from our day before heading out to dinner. We went to the same place as the night before because we were to tired to look for a new place.
Anyways, the biking was fun in the morning but by the end of the day it definitely didn't seem worth it. Plus we ended up not actually making it to any of the new temples that we hadn't seen yet.
Ahhh, vacation.

I can just hear the intonation in your voice as you write these stories...cracks me up. You are having quite an adventure though, I'm glad you are still alive and the lightning didn't kill you. Keep smiling :)
