Today we took an excursion into the jungle a little bit, to the sights of some of the areas where they fought the Vietnam War/American War.
We went to a town called Cu Chi, which was a stronghold for the Viet Cong during the war, in large part because they built a very extensive tunnel system under ground. Our guide told us there were 200 km of tunnels where the people lived and were able to hide from the bombings. Our tour guide told us that it was possible in Cu Chi because the ground had so much clay in it that the tunnels were nearly impossible to break.
They let us go down into a portion of the tunnels and it was so small and slightly claustrophobic. What's more, the tunnels they let the tourists go in have been widened by 20 percent because tourists kept getting stuck. They showed us some holes for the original tunnels and they were so small, it is hard to imagine people living down there.
You can also still see bomb craters in the area, which seems nuts.
Overall the tour was pretty interesting, and we really enjoyed it. Although, it is unnerving to listen to all of the America-bashing Communist propaganda.
After the tour, we wet back to the city to take it easy before heading to the tailor again for a fitting. It was so fun, and you can tell that they are good, because everything is turning out how I wanted it even with a slight language barrier.
We tried Pho today for the first time, and it was pretty good. It is a very traditional dish, with beef, and broth and noodles and different toppings. I am a fan of Asian soups, although I am not getting any better at eating with chopsticks which is unfortunate.
